About Znojmo

Znojmo is a historic town in the south of Moravia, set above the Dyje (Thaya) River in the heart of a wine-growing region. It is one of the oldest and most precious heritage reserves in Czechia and lies on the main Prague – Vienna route.

Main monuments

  • Znojmo Castle – former Přemyslid seat above the Dyje valley
  • Rotunda of St. Catherine with precious Romanesque frescoes
  • Gothic Church of St. Nicholas and the 68 m Town Hall Tower
  • Znojmo Underground – an extensive three-storey system of passages
  • Louka Monastery – a former Premonstratensian abbey

Nature

Right next to the town lies the Podyjí National Park with the canyon of the Dyje, heaths and the Hardegg cliff. Water fun is offered by the Vranov Dam, the "Moravian Adriatic".

Wine and gastronomy

The region is famous for winemaking, Znojmo gherkins and Moravian cuisine. The highlight of the year is the Znojmo Historic Vintage in September.
